Special Delivery (Special Delivery, #1)

By Heidi Cullinan Penny’s Rating: A+ Please Be Advised: This review contains Mature Content.  My safe word will forever be Violet, and it is all Heidi Cullinan’s fault. Oh. My. GOD. Oh my freaking GOD! I can honestly say that I have loved everything I have ever read by Heidi Cullinan, but this book, oh my GOD. This is the hottest book I have read so far in 2012. I absolutely LOVED it! I read Special Delivery back in May, immediately followed by: Double Blind (Special Delivery, #2), which is equally awesome and hot, and a perfect companion to the story from SD #1. Anyway, I knew I needed to do a review for Special Delivery so I could rave about how freaking amazing, awesome, and sexy I think this book is. I also apologize for the number of times I am going to say “Oh my God.” in this review. It will probably get old by the end of it, but you can just deal. Here’s the description from Dreamspinner Press: Sam Keller knows he’ll never find the excitement he craves in Middleton, Iowa–not while he’s busting his ass in nursing school and paying rent by slaving away in…

First Impressions

by Christopher Koehler Penny’s Rating: B+ Publisher Description: “The first time Henry Hughes and Cameron Jameson meet, it’s an unmitigated disaster. Cameron reminds Henry of all he left behind when he stopped making adult films, and he cruelly rejects Cameron. When Cameron discovers Henry’s porno-thespian past, he assumes he’s dodged a bullet. But circumstances continue to throw the two together. Though the physical attraction between them grows, they cling to first impressions, even as a slow dance reveals just how good they could be. Henry finally realizes how wrong he was, but Cameron can’t cope with “sleeping with the enemy”. It will take a confrontation for Cameron to realize just how wrong he’s been, but unfortunately, he may have lost his chance.” ebook, 300 pages Published April 16th 2012 by Dreamspinner Press ISBN13 9781613724804 edition language: English If someone had told me before I offered to review this book for Net Galley that First Impressions was a gay contemporary romance novel that follows the plot of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, I would have told you that there was no way that would work as a novel. So I am glad I didn’t know that when I started reading. You…

Love Life

Penny’s Rating: C- By Rachel Spangler Publisher Description: “Life coach Elaine Raitt is educated, elegant, and dedicated to her profession. Blue-collar boi Joey Lang is too insecure to even approach her—that is until her well-meaning but meddling best friend Lisa decides to break the ice and makes Joey a life-coaching appointment with Elaine. A session meant to bring clarity only leaves them both feeling more confused about their purpose in life and love. Will Joey be able to find the strength to chase the woman of her dreams, and even if she does, will Elaine be willing to risk the life she loves for the woman who could be the love of her life?” When I read the description for this book, I was super excited. My first lesbian book review for Net Galley? Bring it. I tackled it enthusiastically, and overall, I am very sorry to say that I was disappointed. I do however think that where I found the story lacking has more to do with my own personal viewpoint the story itself. It is a well written story, it’s just that the story embodies that whole Bridget Jones’s Diary-ish whiny non-proactive woman thing, and that crap drives…

He wants to make it up to Liam, and once he discovers how much they have in common, he wants even more. But with Liam’s father popping in unexpectedly and a mining company threatening the ranch’s water supply, the only guarantee is that life is never going to be boring.” Okay, I am going to make this one short and sweet. I LOVE cowboy romance stories. Hot gay cowboys, lots of them, all living on the same ranch, who maybe have an occasional romp in…

Galley Proof

By Eric Arvin Penny’s Rating: C- ebook, 1st Edition, 195 pages Published January 13th 2012 by Dreamspinner Press ISBN 1613723342 (ISBN13: 9781613723340) Edition language: English Publisher Description: “Fiction writer Logan Brandish is perfectly happy in his peaceful small-town routine with his best friend, his cat, and his boyfriend—until he meets the editor of his next book, the handsome Brock Kimble, and the lazy quiet of everyday living goes flying out the window. To take his mind off the mess, he takes a trip, but even the beautiful Italian, um, scenery can’t keep his thoughts from his erstwhile editor for long. Logan just might have to admit there are some things you can’t run from.” Okay, I’ll admit it. This book was not my cup of tea. This was my first experience reading anything by Eric Arvin, and bottom line, this just wasn’t my style. Arvin however, has written quite a…
