Blog Tour Interview with Enjoy the Dance Author Heidi Cullinan and Rafflecoptor Giveaway

You can read part two of this interview below, part one at The Novel Approach, and part three at Prism Book Alliance. P: It’s been my experience people have a lot of misconceptions about what youth homelessness (and even homelessness in general) is. Do you share that experience, and if so, what kind of damage do you feel that does? How do we repair it? H: Youth homelessness in Iowa is a largely invisible crisis for most of the general population, and can take many forms other than what many would think of as a person living in a tent or cardboard box and panhandling at intersections and highway ramps.  Homeless youth under the age of 18 can be youth who have run away, or they can be youth who were ejected from their family homes, often due to LGBTQ identities.  Many homeless youth are ages 18-24, and they have aged out of either the child welfare system or the juvenile justice system with no supports or permanent connections. Homeless youth often “couch surf,” moving from location to location wherever they can find a place to stay and possibly a meal.  A lot of homeless youth are forced to engage…

Adam’s Flight is COMING SOON

Soooo….. I haven’t written a blog post since April! Yikes. The main reason for that is, that I spent a lot of my free time working on a short story for the goodreads.com M/M Romance Group’s annual ‘Don’t Read in the Closet’ event, which this year is titled Love’s Landscapes. Then my hubby and I decided to try our hand at some DIY renovations and were met with varying degrees of disaster and success. That is a whole other story, but suffice it to say my blogging time has been limited. I started participating in this event three years ago in 2012, and at that time wrote the first creative piece of writing I had attempted since college some ten years ago. Writers who volunteer to participate in the event choose a picture and a prompt that speak to them, and write a story based on them. This year I picked a prompt I loved, but was slightly terrified of. You’ll see why. It was not the type of prompt I expected to choose.  No fluffy gay for you prompts for Penny this year, challenge accepted. Here is the prompt in its entirety. The picture that inspired the prompt can be viewed here….

Freebies and Steals , Notes From Penny / February 2, 2014

Yep. So in late 2013 I noticed this book, Continental Divide (Separate Ways, #1), up for free on Amazon. I read the sample, and ended up downloading it. I devoured it and ended up buying the other books in the series, Oceans Apart and Moving Mountains, and devouring them too. Continental Divide also free on Smashwords, and .99 cents on Barnes & Noble. Definitely worth the free read, and you might just get hooked! Publisher Description: “Detective Remington frickin’ hates the missing persons detail, but a cold fury builds in the pit of his stomach when he realizes that over the past three months six boys have disappeared from the smaller communities that surround the greater Phoenix area. All reported to be runaways looking to escape their shitty lives, but Remy’s starting to put together a different picture and he doesn’t like it one damn bit. Inspector Jamie Mainwaring stares at the six reports, willing them to make sense. Six boys, six months, all from just outside of London, which meant six different investigations. All of the boys were between the ages of ten and fifteen, all purportedly runaways from dysfunctional families. Something was rotten in Denmark. There are always runaways. Every small town loses them—every…

The Inconvenient Duchess – FREE on Kindle & NOOK (for now anyway)…

Penny’s Rating: C+ This is pretty good for a freebie! I haven’t ventured into historical het romance land recently, and I was pleasantly surprised. Publisher Description”Dear Cici and Father,” “I have come to Devon and married a duke. And I’m more tired and hungry than I have ever been in my life. Please let me come home.” Compromised and wedded on the same day, Lady Miranda was fast finding married life not to her taste. A decaying manor and a secretive husband were hardly the stuff of girlish dreams. Yet every time she looked at dark, brooding Marcus Radwell, Duke of Haughleigh, she felt inexplicably compelled–and determined–to make their marriage real… So yay! A decent free book. I did go into this with pretty low expectations. I really wasn’t expecting much, but I have to say I was surprised that this story avoided many of the stereotypical pitfalls of het historicals. I’ve gotten jaded and bitter over the years and most of the time I choke on the unrealistic virginal sex scenes and the absolutely depressing helplessness of either one or both MC’s. “I love him sooooo much, but what is I tell him/her and he/she doesn’t feel the same…
