Adam’s Flight is COMING SOON

Soooo….. I haven’t written a blog post since April! Yikes. The main reason for that is, that I spent a lot of my free time working on a short story for the goodreads.com M/M Romance Group’s annual ‘Don’t Read in the Closet’ event, which this year is titled Love’s Landscapes. Then my hubby and I decided to try our hand at some DIY renovations and were met with varying degrees of disaster and success. That is a whole other story, but suffice it to say my blogging time has been limited. I started participating in this event three years ago in 2012, and at that time wrote the first creative piece of writing I had attempted since college some ten years ago. Writers who volunteer to participate in the event choose a picture and a prompt that speak to them, and write a story based on them. This year I picked a prompt I loved, but was slightly terrified of. You’ll see why. It was not the type of prompt I expected to choose.  No fluffy gay for you prompts for Penny this year, challenge accepted. Here is the prompt in its entirety. The picture that inspired the prompt can be viewed here….

THE BEST PART- A New FREE Penny Wilder Short
Penny Writes Romance / August 26, 2013

Yep. I did it again. I attempted to write something for the M/M Romance Group on Goodreads’ annual short story event, this year dubbed “Love Has No Boundaries“. Here’s how it works: group members are asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group then select a photo and prompt that speaks to them and write a short story. So, here is the prompt I picked for my story, THE BEST PART. Links to download the story are available in pdf, mobi or epub at: mmromancegroup.com. The event features over 180 free stories, so if you enjoy M/M fiction or just want to see what all the fuss is about, I highly recommend you check it out. Anyway, enjoy! Prompt for THE BEST PART, By Penny Wilder: Dear Author, Who are you and what have you done with my best friend? You think you know a guy and then, wham, it seems like I know nothing at all. My previously shy and somewhat geeky best friend seems to have been hiding a few things from me. For example, pink underwear— what the hell? And when did he acquire that ripped body and…

TELLING JASE is now FREE at Smashwords
Penny Writes Romance / June 25, 2013

Thanks to a changes that Goodreads.com made to their definition of “published” works, of which I will probably say more on at a later date, I decided to release my “Love is Always Write” story TELLING JASE on Smashwords! Yes, it is free. It is, also thanks to Smashwords, already available through Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo, Apple, Diesel, some public libraries, and will soon be available through Amazon.com. If you haven’t already, I hope you download it and enjoy! For someone who wasn’t planning to release this story in anything other that its original event format, this whole experience has been a trip. My story has an ISBN. It’s available at libraries. I am so impressed with Smashwords, they really make it incredibly easy (once you figure out the formatting anyway), to self-publish, and I will absolutely use them again. Also thanks to J.W. Passaro (@JWPDesignWorks) for the kick-ass cover.

My short story, TELLING JASE is now available on Goodreads as part of the Love is Always Write series by members of the M/M Romance Group on Goodreads. It is…squeee! Gulp…now available for download in Love Is Always Write: Volume Nine (Don’t Read in the Closet Event. The whole LiAW set of stories is now available in eleven amazing volumes, which comes out to over 5,000 pages of free reads! Other authors in Love Is Always Write: Volume Nine include: Andrea Speed, Jaime Samms, N.R. Walker, A.J. Jarrett, Anna Birmingham, Dusk Peterson, Tam Ames , Tami Veldura, Gina A. Rogers, and Vicktor Alexander. TELLING JASE tells the story of Sean Taggert, who has been in love with his best friend and former college roommate Jase Shaw for the last two years and nine months. He’s never told Jase how he feels, though. There were always other people in the way. Up until six months ago, Jase was shacked up with his cheating college boyfriend Marcus. Up until last night, Sean was engaged to the mother of his two-year old child, Cody. Cody may have been the result of a drunken one-night stand, but Sean would do anything for his son, including…

Penny Writes Romance…. TELLING JASE, A Love Is Always Write Story

OK. I know I haven’t been blogging much in the last two months, (SORRY!) and this is the reason why. I have been writing, just not book reviews. For the first time since well, college, I sat down to write a fiction story. I spent two months slaving away, spending all the time I could outside of work on my laptop, and managed to come up with a approx 15,000 word short story. (If you don’t know what 15,000 words looks like, that’s about 30 pages in MS Word). It was an eye-opening experience for me, to say the least. I had no idea going into it how much work my little story would entail! I ate like crap, I skipped working out, and I skipped sleeping. I also managed to kill a couple pretty hardy house plants. I am so grateful to my wonderful husband who took care of me and made sure the cats got fed and the house didn’t fall apart! I have a new respect for all writers, and a better idea of how much time it could take for me to complete a longer project. I learned so much from doing this. As crazy as…
