Josh Lanyon’s Adrien English Mystery Series

~Penny’s Series Rating: A ~ SO this wasn’t a review I planned on doing, but I ended up enjoying this series so much that I wanted to give it a shout out. I am in love with this series. I’ll be honest, I don’t love every mystery I pick up. But this is mystery with a side of exquisite, yell out loud at the fictional character’s you are reading about, angst. I will admit, I read all five books in three days. I barely slept because I couldn’t go to bed until I knew what happened, and I was useless the next day, but it was so worth it. Josh Lanyon, it’s official, I am a convert. He’s become my go-to mystery author. Adrien English Book Blurbs and Links Fatal Shadows (Adrien English #1) One sunny morning Los Angeles bookseller and aspiring mystery author Adrien English opens his front door to murder. His old high school buddy (and employee) has been found stabbed to death in a back alley following a loud and very public argument with Adrien the previous evening. Naturally the cops want to ask Adrien a few questions; they are none too impressed with his answers, and when a few…

Lonely Hearts Blog Tour and Rafflecoptor Giveaway

~Penny’s Rating: A ~ After reading Lonely Hearts, I have come to the following conclusions: 1. This series rocks. 2. I now want to own a Tesla. 3. I want to relive my college years at St. Timothy, and sing my aca-scuse me ass off. (I may be combining this with a Pitch Perfect fantasy…) 4. I have a renewed obsession with all things Studio Ghibli, especially Howl’s Moving Castle. I am so glad that Baz and Elijah got their story! If you haven’t read the Love Lessons series, I really do recommend you start with book one, Love Lessons, because you will have a better idea of who all of the characters in the series are, and they are all awesome sauce. This book is like old home week, because we get to visit with the MC’s from Love Lessons and Fever Pitch, see all of our pals from St. Timothy and even run into a few (spoilers) other slightly older residents of Heidi Cullinanland Minneapolis/ St. Paul (I won’t say who exactly, but I was so glad that they showed up in this!) Heidi Cullinan has a gift for tackling really intense issues: drug use and trauma recovery, affluence and…

GUEST POST: LM Somerton Talks About Testing Lysander
Book Reviews , LGBTQUIA / June 20, 2015

I’m so thrilled to be hosting LM Somerton! Testing Lysander is one steamy book! Thanks LM! -Penny LM Somerton: In planning Testing Lysander I intended to come up with a thriller with a thread of romance rather than a romance with a thread of adventure. You’ll have to come up with your own opinion as to whether I succeeded, but it did make me think about what exactly makes a good thriller. Now I realized that everyone’s going to have a different opinion on this, but for me, a good thriller is a story I can’t put down, it has me biting my nails and staying up late at night, fretting about whether the characters are going to survive. Thrillers come in many forms, but in general, the plots are scary, the characters are at great risk and the novels are constructed in a manner that makes the reader really want to turn the page. Lots of action and dramatic landscapes add to the recipe. Throw in a plot that concerns itself with life-and-death issues and a seriously malevolent antagonists and you have a formula for excitement. I had no pretensions of writing deep social commentary, instead focusing on creating an…

Carry The Ocean Blog Tour

~Penny’s Rating: A ~ I completely adored this book. Wow. Really wow. It’s well done and gushy and romantic and real. This book surprised me. Okay, for regular readers of this blog, it’s no secret that I am a huge Heidi Cullinan fangirl. I am, and I totally admit it. I love her adult fiction, but I’ve viewed her ventures into new adult with a bit of trepidation, because as a reader, I no longer knew what I was going to get. They’ve been great though. I should not have been worried at all! The Love Lessons series is amazing, and Cullinan has another winner here with Carry the Ocean. Cullinan has created a different world for the Roosevelt series,  and it’s definitely one worth exploring. One thing I wasn’t expecting was to personally relate so well with the MC’s. Here’s the thing, I’ve been Jeremey and I’ve been Emmet. We all have and are to some degree or another.  I’ve experienced depression, and that was the part I expected to relate to on a personal level.  What I didn’t expect was how much I learned about but myself from Emmet.  I am not autistic,  but I score on the very high-end…

The Pride of Amsterdam Blog Tour, Character Interview with Lion Shifter Arjan de Wit

Yes that’s right, lion shifter interview right here! Boom! I am happy to be joined today by Elizabeth Caldwell and the star of her latest novel The Pride of Amsterdam, yummy lion shifter Arjan de Wit. Character Interview with Lion Shifter Arjan de Wit Hi Penny, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to sharethe thoughts of the gorgeous Dutch lion shifter who’s at the heart of the mystery in The Pride of Amsterdam, Arjan de Wit. Arjan is a successful businessman who runs his own computer software firm but he’s also carrying a few secrets that could make or break his relationship with his human mate, Kees. Elizabeth: Hello, Arjan. It’s nice to meet you. Arjan: Goedendag, Elizabeth. I hope you have some interesting questions for me. Elizabeth: I’ll do my best. To start off, what is your favourite item in your wardrobe? Arjan: This will sound boring but I have a couple of suits I wear to work that I had handmade in Italy. They’re stylish but practical. Elizabeth: And boxers or briefs? Arjan: On to the really personal stuff so quickly, I see. (Laughs) To be honest, most of the time I don’t bother with any underwear –…
